Houseplant tip

This is one of those little tips I have heard for a long time, but just never tried.  Well, this week I did and I’m so glad!  I just wanted to share it with you.  We have 4 large pots of plants on our main floor of our house and 3 or 4 small ones.  I water them a couple times a week and throw some fertilizer on them every few months, but that’s about it.  They are quite beautiful, except the leaves get so dusty.  Short of wiping down every single leaf by hand, I wasn’t sure how to clean them.  I had heard from various sources to put the plants in the shower.  I always thought that was kind of silly, but I was sick of these dusty plants.  So, as I was getting ready to mop and vacuum the floors this week, I hauled all the plants into the downstairs shower.  I put the large peace lilies and the ficus on the floor and the smaller ones on the shower seat.  Next, I turned on the water and gave my plants a shower!  I only let the water go for  20 or 30 seconds.  I was afraid to water log my plants!  The larger plants on the floor took the full force of the water and the smaller ones on the seat just got a fine mist.  I even put my orchid in there to enjoy the humidity.  I kept the plants in the shower all morning to dry off and get as much of that moist air as possible,  When I put them back in their places, they looked so clean and healthly!  And the housecleaning went better without the plants to work around!  Giving the plants a shower will definately be part of my weekly cleaning routine.
