Time for yourself

February 25, 2009 by

We’ve all read it a thousand times in every magazine targeting women.  “Take time for you” “What are you doing for you?”  Those articles are usually pushing manicures to martinis to beat the stresses of life.  While a manicure may be relaxing, does it really do anything about the cause of the stress?  “Well, it sure is nice to get away from it all for just a little while,” you might say.   Sure, we all want to escape now and again, and there is nothing wrong with that.  My question is:  does escaping really do  any good if you haven’t changed your mindset toward what you are escaping from?  Its a short term fix to a long term problem.

Lets talk about taking time for yourself that actually makes you and your life better.  Do you have a good, positive friend that recharges you?  When is the last time you read a book designed to help you not just take you away to another place and time?  Is there a speaker you enjoy that can impart wisdom and truth into your life that you can listen to on CD or online?  What do you do to fill up what has been depleted from the demands of your life?

Just something to think about.  Got any ideas?

  1. Hmmm, things I like to do are:

have a long, leisurely lunch with a friend
    bubble baths
    talk to my hubby
write in my private blog (which usually sorts out WHY I’m feeling the way I am)
speak to a friend who is the exact opposite of me – she always gives great insights
