Spring Cleaning

March 3, 2009 by

Well, March is here and I have spring fever….bad!!  I can’t wait to get outside and work in the yard in short sleeves and shorts.  I can’t wait to get outside in something other than a winter coat and  gloves!  It has been a long winter.  Since I can’t get outside yet, I might as well start spring cleaning.  Yes…I said it…spring cleaning.   Someone asked me the other day if people still did spring cleaning.   There was a time, before kids, when I probably didn’t spring clean the house from top to bottom.  Now that we have kids, the house sometimes seems like a breeding ground for all sorts of unpleasant conditions brought home from school.  And about this time of year, the house has been closed up too long and just isn’t as fresh as we’d like it to be.  Time for spring cleaning!

Before I start, I need a plan.  Since I still have a little one at home that needs my attention, I cannot devote an entire week to this project – nor do I want to.  My motto is all things is step by step in small, managable pieces.  I have divided my house into 7 zones and will take on one zone at a time.  I am not going to put a specific end date on each zone, but I want to have the entire project finished by the end of March.  A month to spring clean the whole house – that’s definately do-able!

Tomorrow, I will give more detail to zones and what I want to accomplish in each zone.  Hopefully, this will give you some encouragement to start your spring cleaning and make me accountable to get mine finished!  Just think what clean, fresh, healthy houses we’ll all have!

I can’t wait to see your plan. I have never done spring cleaning and struggle with organization (see my blog: http://inthemicro.blogspot.com/2009/02/rhythm-of-home.html). I seem to tackle home projects as I find time – if I don’t get off this computer, I will never find the time. My interim plan is to attack the toy room and work from there. My concern is that spring cleaning will last until next winter. I will be back to look for guidance.
