Don’t get too busy for your husband
March 25, 2009 by Marci
This post is for me as much as anyone today. We’ve discussed lots of areas in our lives that become neglected when we get too “busy” – our homes, our friends, our kids, our relationship with God… However, we haven’t discussed one of the most important parts of our lives; one that we can take for granted – our husbands. Our relationship with our husbands should be second only to our relationship with the Lord. Our friends and kids may move away, but we have that “till death do we part” thing going on with our husbands. Why is it then, that the marital relationship is the most likely to suffer neglect as families and responsibilities grow?
Remember how much you and your husband loved being together early in your relationship? You both looked forward to seeing each other again when you were apart. Think back to the long conversations you have and how many hopes and dreams you shared. Now, fast forward past building a career and starting a family to the present. When was the last time you had a conversation with your husband that wasn’t interrupted by screaming children or by one of you falling asleep? Do you and your husband still have the same goals, dreams and ideas?
Take time. Schedule it. Right now! Have a date night. Get away for the weekend. Call a babysitter. Let the kids go to a friends house for the night. The other mother will understand completely! Just do it! Get to know that guy you live with. Get on the same page. Remember what you love about each other. Life is a long haul to live with a total stranger. You are not too busy, are you?

I’ve just been blogging about this! DH and I just had a date night this weekend, and it was so good for the soul and our relationship. It was the first time ever that my kids spent the night at my parent’s house, and I’m so happy to say that everything went wonderfully. I can’t wait to do it again. ; )
I’m gearing up for April being my “re-connect with DH” month. It’s going to be my big focus.
I can’t wait! Give us some good ideas!
