Keeping the kitchen organized

April 30, 2009 by Marci

During the day, I spend most of my time in and around our kitchen area.  If I’m not preparing a meal or snack, I’m cleaning it up.  Or I might be reading the mail, coloring with the kids, working on an art project, going over homework, surfing the web working on my laptop….  My house it not unlike yours, I’m sure.  The kitchen is the heart of the home.

Since I spend so much time in my kitchen, I have been rethinking the way I have it organized.  The kitchen is organized now, but I believe it can be better.  Being disorganized or having an organization system that doesn’t work for you can be a huge waste of time.  It can keep you busy!   The two areas of my kitchen that can use an update are the paper management system (or lack thereof) and the pantry.  I have been seeking out new ideas on kitchen organization and here are a few great links I have found so far.

Mandi at Organizing Your Way is having a Maximizing Your Kitchen Space week.

Check out this organized pantry at Thea’s Blog – love it!!

Organizing Life has this great idea for organizing that stack of loose recipes you’ve got floating around your kitchen.

Got any kitchen organization tips of your own?  What are your problem area in your kitchen area?  Junk drawer?  Pantry? Paper clutter?

Marci, Thank you so much for visiting my blog and including my link! I totally agree with you that the kitchen is the heart of my home! (It is the only place where the kids can be messy, since we have carpet everywhere else.)

My kitchen always seems to accumulate piles of stuff that need to go back upstairs or back in the basement. So I plan to place some small bins on a shelf where I can toss these items and later bring the whole bin upstairs and return them to the bedroom or the bath. (I have two toddlers, who love to relocate things, and this is also why I can’t just run upstairs to return one item.)

I am eager to see how you tackle your kitchen conundrums!
