A place for everything – bathroom edition

May 15, 2009 by

These past couple weeks, Tsh at Simple Mom has been hosting a Spring Cleaning Party.  There have been lots of great ideas shared about cleaning, decluttering, and organization.  I did my Spring Cleaning back in March because I had cabin fever and wanted to pretend it was spring just for my mental well-being.  So, as I read about the Spring Cleaning Party at Simple Mom, I went back to areas I had forgotten or where I could have done a better job.  I am big on everything having a place, so I tried to go through the house and see where I have done well and where I need some more work.

One area that I am particularly proud of is my bathroom – the master bath in particular.  I realized that this is one of the most peaceful rooms in the house.  I think this is because there is no clutter and everything has its place!  Take for instance, my counter.  This was taken mid-morning.  I did not clean up of this space.  This is just how it is most of the time.  When I am finished getting ready in the morning, I just quickly put everything back in its place and give the counters a quick wipe down and I’m on with my day.

I like to have the stuff I use daily within arm’s reach. The easier everything is to find, the less busy my mornings are.   The green basket on my counter has my hair brushes, hand mirror, hair bands, etc.  My make up brushes stay in this little porcelain cup my grandmother gave me.  I found this off-set flower pot for 99 cents last week!  Its great for my cotton pads.

When it comes to my make-up, I love having it in an organized drawer where I can see everything and grab what I need quickly.  These little plastic trays came from the dollar store 3 in a pack.  They are shallow and easy to clean -just right for a make-up drawer. I put a little non-skid liner underneath the trays to keep them from sliding when I open and close the drawers.

Here is a shot of my bathroom linen cabinet.  I use those little plastic trays in here, too.  They keep my skin care, hair care, medicines and first aid all together. When the trays can’t hold everything, I know it is time to declutter.

There is a removable tray at the end of our tub to access the whirlpool motor.  It is a great place to store all my lotions and bath gels.  I like being able to have a plan in there, too.  I am looking for the right container to move another plant in there soon.  I love plants!

As you can see, having a place for everything really cuts down on clutter and makes cleaning a lot easier.  My whole house isn’t this organized, but I’m working on it!

What is your most organized room?  Do you have any secret tips on keeping it that way?

Good Friday Marci! As you know I am waiting a few weeks for my spring cleaning due to our recent move in a smaller home. I need whatever ideas I can get! Thanks again for posting this…it does help! I think my bathroom is the most organized in my home. Although not as organized as yours looks right now! I use a lot of plastic containers to store specific things in the cabinets and under the sink. Other places I mainly use baskets. My husband calls me a basket freak! LOL. I love my baskets! Have a wonderful weekend!

I too, love plastic clear baskets! They are ideal for Jilly’s room and also the bathroom, especially since there is no storage in my bathroom, only the hall closet. It has worked really well in keeping my hubby’s stuff together so he can find whatever he needs easily and I have all of my stuff organized (his, mine, Jilly’s). They also make it harder for my toddler to get into and pull things off the shelf.
