Rainy day ideas for kids
June 12, 2009 by Marci

This week, I am highlighting my creative friends for Get Your Creative On hosted by The Creative Mama. Yesterday, was a cold, rainy day and my kids were starting to get restless. We had already done chores, gone to the grocery store and were on our 3rd scavenger hunt when I put a little shout out on Facebook. “Anyone have any good rainy day ideas for kids?” Within 30 minutes, I had a whole list of great ideas. I love having creative friends!
Here are the ideas just as they were posted on my Facebook page. Print these out and keep them handy. I bet you’ll need them before the summer is over!
- We have played Operation and practiced some handwriting and words
- Play magic rocks. you say magic rocks they curl up in a ball on the ground. then you say magic rocks become a . . . . and finish by saying magic rocks they go back into a ball and you repeat. can go forever

- I always get out the craft box and they just make their own creations, keeps them entertained for awhile.
- finger paints, hide and seek, twister, quiet mouse
, a movie, go fish (card game), bake cookies, naps!, reading aloud…which may lead to naps
, making creatures with pipe cleaners, kick the can ice cream (look online for recipes; made using large cans and rolling around on the floor) -kids love it…….
- need to go through the kids clothes – have them go to their rooms and bring all their clothes to you while you sit on the couch and have a try on/dress up session – you can figure out what they’ve outgrown and what you need to get rid of and it’ll kill tons of time – have them make 2 piles ya know – keep pile – get rid of pile
