The more people I talk to in person and online about the concept of overcoming busy, the more I realize that I am on the right track. Slowing down seems to be what almost everyone would love to do, but there seems to be this big obstacle in their way. It is the same obstacle that gets in the way of most people’s goals. What is it? …….Getting started!!! Busy people can feel they are on a merry-go-round that won’t slow down and it is just too painful to jump off.
That got me thinking. What are simple steps that we can take right now that can help us overcome busy? What baby steps would make small, yet measurable differences in our lives? I started making a list and discovered there are lots of things we can do – lots of ways to get started. So, I am starting a new weekly feature - “Start Overcoming Busy Right Now”. Each week I will give you one more simple way to get the busy out of your life so you can really live. I thought about giving you a big list in one post, but that in itself would be overwhelming. Lets just take it in little steps.
So, what shall our first step be? Think about when you feel the most relaxed. Is your mind far off racing with to-do lists, worries and anxieties? Or, is your mind clear and present? Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Concentrate on nothing but that breath. Take a couple breaths if you want. Reset yourself. Open your eyes. Don’t you feel more relaxed already? Your mind and body work best when they are not in full panic mode. Relax, if even more a moment. You will be better able to make decisions and handle the stress of daily life.
There it is. Our first step in overcoming busy. Its simple. It can fit into your life right now. All the rest of our steps can be built on this one.
