Menu Plan Monday – September 28, 2009
September 28, 2009 by Marci

Another week begins and it brings with it cooler temps. Yesterday, we were wearing shorts and today we are looking for jackets and sweatshirts. This cooler weather has made me change my whole menu for the week. I am no longer thinking about grilling or salads. I am craving warm, comfort foods. Chili and soups and warm apple crisp…. Sounds soooo good!
The concept of “comfort foods” has got me thinking. What do I consider a “comfort food”? Is it just warm food, food that I grew up with, or food that brings back good memories? In my mind, it is all of the above. Chili is a comfort food for me because it warms me up with both the temperature and the spice. My mom’s Hungarian Goulash is a comfort food for me, because it was my favorite dish growing up. I love my friend Sandra’s artichoke dip because it tastes fantastic and it reminds me of times spent with her and her family.
This week, I feel the need for warm, comfort foods to fight off the chill of the fall temperatures and the depressing realization that summer is really over and winter is around the corner! (Not a fan of winter) Here is my menu plan for this week.
Dinner
Chili, grilled cheese sandwiches
Chicken tortilla soup, quesadillas
Lasagna, salad, bread
Chicken wings, mac n cheese, green beans
Hungarian Goulash, salad
leftovers
Kids Lunches
I need some new ideas for lunches. I just stumbled across the site School Lunch Ideas that I’m going to check out for some new inspiration!
So, what do you consider comfort food? When do you feel you need your comfort food?
