Wasting Time
October 28, 2009 by Marci

At “Overcoming Busy”, my goal is to give people tools to get rid of all the extra junk in their lives that are getting in the way of what is really important. I have written about organizing, routines, biblical perspectives, housekeeping, meal planning and more. But the more I think about it, overcoming busy can be boiled down to “stop wasting time!”
Think about it. An unorganized home wastes our time. If we can’t find something we need, we waste time we could spend with our families trying to find it. An unstructured life wastes time. When we roll out of bed at anytime we want and don’t have a plan for the day, we waste time trying to dig ourselves out of a hole rather than spending time doing something we really enjoy. Get what I’m saying?
I jotted down a few time wasters. Can you think of others?
Internet
Facebook (maybe its just me??)
TV
Worry
Fear
Volunteering out of guilt rather than real necessity
Guilt
Procrastination
How do you waste time?

Amen! One of the first things I ask my clients to do when they are seeking help for time management is to take an HONEST look at their time and track EVERYTHING for a week. Big eye opener there.
My biggest problem… the internet. I have to get online with a specific task and not deviate if I do minutes become hours all too quickly and when you look back you realize it was not a productive 2 hours, because you started to wander… blog after blog after blog!
Oooh! Great post!! I really like and can relate to your list of “timewasters”!! Esp FACEBOOK! I usually refer to it as the “life sucking vortex”. HA!
I am really enjoying your blog, btw!
Blessings on you!
Those sound just like me!! Last night at my class at church, we were talking about praying and how we need to “listen” to God and I felt God telling me; how can you listen when you are always busy or sleeping! One more reason, we need to slow down, so we can listen to what God has to tell us!!
