Gifts Of Love

Each year, our family kicks off the Christmas season by filling a shoebox full of blessings for a child somewhere in the world through Operation Christmas Child and Samaritan’s Purse.  The kids love picking out little gifts for a boy or girl their own age who has not been materialy blessed as we have been.  I love seeing their little faces as they lovingly pack the boxes.  It is a feeling I want to hold onto throughout the season – the joy of giving.  Unfortunately, that feeling starts to fade from my children as they are bombarded by grandparents, aunts and uncles asking what they want for Christmas.  The attention quickly turns from others to themselves.

A wonderful way to pull the family back into the giving mode is to check out the Gifts Of Love catalog at Samaritan’s Purse.  Looking through the catalog really brings our blessings and the need to give into perspective.  The gifts include livestock, baby chicks, honey bees….all to help a poor family sustain itself.  There are other gifts like medicine, clothing, education that change the course of people’s lives forever.

Samaritan’s Purse ahs great videos that let you see their ministry in action.  Set down with your family and watch some of the touching video.  You can be a part of that wonderful work.  I challenge you to ask each family member to give up a gift this Christmas and put that money toward a Gift Of Love from Samaritan’s Purse.  Give to those who truly need it.  Merry Christmas!

I really like the Operation Christmas Child project and have worked at a processing station a couple of times. We have found the most bizarre things like “toy” gas masks and potted meat. In the future, I will continue to volunteer if not only for the joy of working in the processing centers.
