Goal Gathering Monday

January 4, 2010 by Marci

I have never been one for new year’s resolutions.  There is always so much hype around them on January 1st, but by February no one even remembers what their resolutions were!  I prefer to make goals throughout the year.  Just one or two at a time to keep my life going in the direction I want it to go.  Truthfully, there are a few changes I want to make about now, but I have been hesitant to post about them this close to the new year.  I didn’t want to seem like I was getting all caught up in officially making “New Year’s Resolutions”.  Why?  I’m not sure.  That’s another little quirk I need to let go of.  That’s a busy trait!

My friend, Chele, at The Bona Fide Life posted a cool new feature today – Goal Gathering Monday. The idea is to post your goals and your progress every Monday.  I like her approach to her goals.  Take them in bite-sized pieces and ask friends to help keep you going.  Accountability is such a good motivator.

So, here is my goal I will be working on in January.  I really need to stay consistent with exersizing. I am really out of shape and I hate it!!  I’m not overweight or battling any condition – and I want to keep it that way.  My body feels different the older I get and the more out of shape I get.  It is harder and harder for me to to some of the activities that came easy a few years back.  So, in order to maintain my health, I need to get into a workout routine.  We have a pilates reformer that I love.  My plan is to use that 3 days a week.  Some how, I need to get some cardio in 3 days a week.   I love to walk, but the morning temps here have been about -6.  Walking outside is not going to happen.  I’ll figure something out.

There.  I said it!  That’s my goal for January.  I am committed to it now!  I’ll post next Monday on my progress.

What about your goals and resolutions?  Have you made any yet?  Do you need to?  Post them here in the comments or at The Bona Fide Life.  Lets keep each other accountable.  To help us out more, Chele has created The Bona Fide Life Network. It is a place where we can discuss our goals, our lives, our trials and our triumphs.  Be a part of this exciting new community!

You can do it!!!! I wouldn’t be walking outside in those temps either! LOL.

Oh and thanks so much for all you do! xoxo

oh my goodness! -6…that would keep me INSIDE. Wow. okay. thawing out my brain here. I am so with you on the exercise thing though. I think we kind of take being healthy for granted when we are, and realize that life is pretty short and we need to take care of our bodies when we are feeling not as well. I have been feeling really stiff and achy lately (partly the flu) and so I started doing some yoga. It instantly makes my joints feel better, and it makes me laugh to see my son all legs all pretzeled around, diaper butt sticking up in the air, arms grabbed onto somewhere, looking at mommy and asking, “mommy, is this right?” SOO cute. And motivation for him to learn a healthier lifestyle too.
    Happy New Year!

  3. I’m a goal setter through the year, like you. I, too, have a goal set that just happens to be getting started this time of year! ;) I’m polishing up my post on my plans for S.M.A.R.T success that I’ll share tomorrow! Come visit!

Do you have a mall you could walk at nearby? Our mall opens 2 hours before the retailers open for walking. A girlfriend and I used to meet at least once a week to walk with our (then) 1 year olds in strollers then we let them play at the indoor kiddie playground. It was great for exercise AND gabbing!! ;)

  4. I’ve been doing some “goal gathering”, too.

Here’s what I came up with:

    1. Do one thing every day that scares the pee-waddle out of me. This includes most activities related to my blog.
    2. Do at least one thing each day to show my husband how much I respect and love him, even (or especially) when I don’t feel like it. I need to put action to my love for this gorgeous man.
    3. Try to be present in each moment, instead of always wondering, and worrying about, what the next one holds. This one’s a doozy for me. If there was a World Championship Title for Worrying, I’d totally be a contender.
    4. Buy less and use more of what I already own (this applies to my clothes, books and notebooks. Especially notebooks. Most especially grid paper notebooks.)
    5. Appreciate every day with my kids, even when having them makes my life almost unbearably busy, because they are not going to live with us forever and they’re just getting good and I don’t want to wish even a second away.
    6. Run regularly, even though I don’t love it.
