The Article Club

March 24, 2010 by

Today, I received my Better Homes and Garden magazine.  I skimmed through it while the kids were at skating lessons.  Some mom’s read books during the lessons, but I text, write blog posts and skim magazines.  As I looked through it, a little blurb in the calendar section caught my eye.  This month, the calendar featured Lisa Quinn, author of Life’s Too Short.  She shared little tips for creating “me time”.   One of her tips was starting an “article club”.  This is for the mom’s who don’t have the time to read an entire book for a book club. Instead of reading books, you and your friends could discuss a magazine article or a blog posting.

I thought this was an interesting concept, since I hadn’t finished a book in a while.   Then, I thought “Wait a minute!  I do this everyday!”  As blog readers, we all are part of an “article club” and we have the opportunity to discuss the article in the comments section of the blogs.  We don’t have to wait until our club meets.  We don’t have to get gussied up and head across town.  Our article club is open 24/7 and we don’t even care if you’re still in your jammies with baby spit-up stains!

Blogs are great sources of info for those of us who really don’t have time to wade through a whole book to find what we are looking for.  They are also a wonderful source of community and camaraderie.  So, welcome to the article club!  What shall we discuss today?

  1. SO true, blogging is like an ‘article club’ love that!

I’m needing to find some articles on tantrums. My youngest is in the THICK of it, and it’s been a few years since I’ve dealt w/them.

Oh, and in the midst of this, he’s also resisting naps….boo!!

    • My 5 year old has reverted back to tantrums again too! I just treat them like I always did – ignore them. However, a 5 year olds tantrums can be louder and more involved than a 2 year old!

I love this idea! Every time I read a magazine I tear out pages with recipes or tips I want to try and put it in a folder. Unfortunately, that folder usually just gets put in a drawer and forgotten. I’ve been thinking about devoting one blog a month to featuring these ideas so that I don’t have to hold onto a random, torn out piece of paper! So I would definately be interested in participating in your “Article Club”!

Just wanted to let you know that I enjoy reading your blog. You touch on a lot of topics that are dear to my heart. I like your idea about the “Article Club”, as I am a bit of an information junkie. I love reading magazine articles and blog postings to glean any info I can on a number of topics like simplifying, organizing, decorating, gardening….. I look forward to your future posts!
