The Article Club – Week 7
May 21, 2010 by Marci
Welcome to The Article Club! This is the Overcoming Busy version of a book club. I’m not asking you to carve out time to read 400 pages (that you may or may not like) then find the time to summarize it all for me in a sentence or two or tell me how it changed your life . Once a week, I link to an article that I think the Overcoming Busy audience would find useful or at least interesting. You read it. We discuss it in the comments. Easy!
This week’s article is What It Means To Be Organized by Take Control Organizing. I chose this article because I have been thinking a lot about busy and balance and organizing and how all these things are different for different people. My idea of a busy schedule might be different than yours. Your idea of an organized house might be different from mine. For instance, I like to have a place for everything. That makes me feel organized. My daughter, on the other hand, feels that as long as you can see her floor, she’s organized! It can be stressful when you have different views than the people you live with. But, you just work it out!
I love to look at those magazine pictures of the ultra organized spaces with their neat uniform beautiful baskets and bins. Not a stray paper in sight. They look so calm and serene. Do I want to be that organized? I think so. Am I? No. Do I beat myself up over it? No. I have a system of organizing, but like the author said in the article, it is a work in progress. My family’s needs are always changing and so is my system.
What did you think about the article? What is your idea of being organized? Let’s discuss it in the comments!

Wow that’s a great article!! I have to say that my thought of organization is that I have a place for everything. I struggle with doing that very thing and that’s why I always seem to feel like I need to do more! With living in this small home for the 6 of us, it’s very disorganized! I can’t wait to move into our new home so I can find that place for all things! That’s the plan anyway!
I do believe being clean and organized are two different things though! Awesome article Marci! Glad I took time to read it this morning!
Finding a place for everything is my biggest struggle with organization and de-cluttering. I simply don’t know where to go with various little things. When I know where things go, it’s easy to put them away.
I like how the author said that an organized closet can simply be one where all the coats go. That is very much me.
But, I tell you, finding a place for everything is truly difficult, especially the little random things that I need to keep track of. Ugh.
