Healthy Snacks To Go Review and Giveaway!
July 5, 2010 by Marci
I am constantly on the look-out for nutritious snacks that my kids will eat. As a mom who loves to serve up home-cooked, whole foods on a regular basis, processed, preservative filled snacks in a bag just don’t cut it. But, I have to admit, I have a hard time finding alternatives. That’s why I was so excited when Katie at Kitchen Stewardship announced she was working on a Healthy Snacks To-Go e-book! This sounded like just what I needed. I was thrilled when she made a copy available for me to review!
First of all, I have to say this is more than a snack cookbook. It is full of snacking tips. Katie gives great ideas for easy, no prep snacks you might already have in your kitchen(pg 6) and ways to package lunches and snacks in a healthy and environmentally responsible way(pg 43). There are also tips on kitchen utensils and links to other resources.
All 20+ recipes in Healthy Snacks To-Go are all packed with nutrition and flavorful ingredients. It was hard for the kids and I to choose what recipes to try first. Since the kids love wheat thins and granola bars, we tried the Wheat Thin Style Crackers (pg 19) and the granola bars (pg 9) first. I was a bit skeptical about the crackers. I’ve never made crackers and I couldn’t imagine being able to make them from scratch. OK. I could imagine making them, but I couldn’t imagine them tasting good. So, how did they turn out? Amazing! They really do taste like wheat thins! And, they were so easy! The kids had a ball rolling out the dough into thin sheets and cutting them with a pizza cutter. We will definitely be making them again! The granola bar recipe in this book is so easy! The kids basically made them all by themselves. The only problem was that I ate too many of them!
This past weekend, we made the Peanut Butter Kisses (pg 21) and the Mustard Potato Salad (pg 33). Again, so yummy! We can’t wait to try more recipes! This cookbook has given me such good snack ideas and recipes. It’s like the missing link in my meal planning. I can’t wait for you to try it. You can order Healthy Snacks To-Go e-book here or you can try and WIN a copy!!

I’d love to try the Larabar recipes.
I’m stopping by from Robyn’s Mingle Monday. And since I’m here I may as well try my luck at winning this great eBook! The cinnamon rice pudding sounds divine, especially since the winter/cooler months are right around the corner (they really are, right?).
I think this is my first time to you blog. It’s quite lovely and I really enjoy the premise. And although I’m not a Christian, I appreciate the information on your About page regarding ‘busy’. I don’t believe in Satan but I think the saying hits me, like you, and will give me pause next time I tell my daughter I’m ‘busy’.
So glad to stop by from Mingle Monday, please link up next week.
