Mom Who Blogs or a Blogger Who Is A Mom?

July 7, 2010 by

Am I a wife and mom who blogs or a blogger who is a wife and mom? It looks ridiculous when I see it in black and white.  I’m a wife and mama first and foremost!!  Why did I even ask the question?  In the quest to overcome busy, I ask myself those kinds of questions all the time.  They help me keep my priorities in order.  The correct answers to some questions depend on the timing.  Laundry or shopping?  Playing with the kids or cleaning the basement?  That’s why I have to keep asking them.  However, the question about being a blogger or wife and mom first definitely has a correct answer.

Now, that I have asked and answered the question, I need to act on it.  I really like blogging.  I started it to share my journey to get the busy out of my life and help others do the same.   As I researched how to be an effective blogger, the consensus seems to be that I need to blog as often as possible in order to keep an audience. So, I have been blogging 4-5 days per week, according to what was expected of a good blogger.  This schedule worked for quite a while, but as life changes and new opportunities arise I am starting to see that my goal of blogging 4-5 times per week is not overcoming busy.  It’s making me more busy!  I am not being a very good example!

Inspiration

Meredith at Penelope Loves Lists inspired me a few weeks ago with this post.  She chose to put family first and cut back to 2 days per week and her blog has not lost steam at all…and neither has she!!  She inspired me to make some changes around here. So, I am cutting back my posting frequency, but hopefully increasing the quality.  And just how am I going to do that?

Action Plan

1)  I will be posting Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

2)  Monday will be a Menu Plan Monday post or a food related post like the Healthy Snacks To-Go ebook review and giveaway (that’s still going on!!)

3)  Wednesday and Friday will be tips and resources to help us overcome busy.

4)  Be on the look out for more guest posts from people with great things to share!

I am excited about these changes.  It is my prayer that these help you and I overcome busy and spend time on what really matters!

  1. Sounds like a great plan. Very well – balanced. :)

I also post 3 x per week on the same days as you have chosen.

I’ve found that having limited days acutally fuels better content as I have time to let my ideas ‘sit’ for a bit. I can also visit and encourage more blogs (as I find time) on my ‘off’ days.

  2. I think it is a good idea to look carefully and your time management. When i first started blogging I was paranoid about not posting everyday. Now I am more relaxed. I reminded myself why I blogged for myself and if it was making me stressed then that wasnt good.
Hope your plan goes well xxx

  3. Kudos on setting a new schedule!! I try to do about the same though sometimes I have more or less depending on what I want to write about.

Good for you. I have seen this subject blogged about a lot lately. Maybe it is a trend… :) I have been loosening up about this too. You know my “stick to it 100% or else….” kind of attitude. Now, I try to let myself not post when I am not inspired. Not post stuff when it is “simply” a post and not truly something I am proud of. And, I am getting away from the computer more, being a part of real life and loving it. Thanks Marci!

  6. Sounds like a plan….I addressed some of this in my post…”unbalanced”, because after 27 years of parenting I still need reminders

  7. I had to giggle as I read this because even though I write a blog on balanced living I have faced some of the same feelings you touched on in your post. Your plan sounds doable and most importantly, like something you really believe in. All the very best to you. :)

    Hi, Marci!

I wholeheartedly agree with this post. Good for you! I’m so inspired as I read through your posts. As a mama of four, I tend to let the busyness overwhelm my days. Thank you for the reminder of what busyness really is.

Thank you for stopping by my blog last week! I was so touched and loved “meeting” you. I’m following your blog now so that I can keep up with what you’re writing.

    Blessings, Jamie
