Laundry Room Organization
November 17, 2010 by Marci
In my house, I find that keeping the public spaces organized and clutter free is fairly easy. They might get a little out of sorts throughout the week, but all-in-all I am on top of it. Then, there are those hidden areas that just don’t show up on my organizational radar. For example, a couple weeks ago I took a good look at my laundry room. I am in this little room multiple times a day, but I hadn’t just looked at it in a while. What a mess! This room needed help!
As I thought about it, I realized I had been struggling to reach and find things in the laundry room that I needed. And as I looked around, there was stuff in there that just shouldn’t have been. I decided organizing the laundry room would be one of my weekly projects.
Where To Start?
I started by cleaning out what didn’t need to be in the laundry room. I threw out near empty bottles of cleaners and pre-treatments and stuff that I just didn’t like to use. No sense keeping it if I wasn’t going to use it!
Next, I had to organize what was left and make it accessible. I love to containerize and keep like things together. It makes it easier to find what I need and it just looks neat and clean. I tried to use what I had instead of buying new. But the only right sized containers I had were wicker and cardboard – not a good choice for the laundry room. So, off to the dollar store where I found these great containers that held everything just right! Laundry supplies in one basket and cleaners in another. I used the smaller baskets for cleaning cloths and odds and ends.
I used a plastic tub to store old towels and sheets we use for drop cloths and cleaning and puppet stages. Since I don’t use it very much, I placed my laundry basket right on top. It is still easy to get to and has cleared a big amount of floor space.
Now, my laundry room shelves look so clean not cluttered. My family even noticed!
Best of all, this project took me 15 minutes!! That’s it! Now…what to tackle next?
Do you have a laundry room organization trick I need to know about?

way to go marci! Look great! our laundry space isn’t “finished” so I was in there vacuuming the ceiling, concrete walls, and all other surfaces at the end of the summer. I think that the “clean air” actually helped my allergies. We don’t use too many products either. Oxy clean and biodegradable detergent. And although there is a clothing rack in there, I never end up hanging anything on it. When we used chlorine bleach, I used to keep a pyrex in a plastic bin (for drips) dedicated to this purpose. But now we scoop the Oxyclean and there is no need to worry about bleach spots anywhere. Great post…you know I love organizing, even on bed-rest!
Wow!! I cleaned my laundry room just last week!!! However, my laundry room is shared with the heater unit thingy and last week my hubby and a guy from the church decided they could fix it. And messed up my clean laundry area.
The next thing… the Christmas decorations are stored in a nearby spot as well. Will this area ever be totally clutter free?
At least I too enjoyed an organized and neat laundry room for a few days!
Stopping in from iFellowship! Hope you’ve had a wonderful Wednesday!
Love this post! You’ve inspired me to do the same in my laundry area.
Great job, Marci!
