The Cure For Feed Reader Overload
February 8, 2011 by Marci
It keeps happening. My feed reader gets away from me. I try to purge feeds, but I keep adding more and more new ones. I can’t help it.
The lists of unread blog posts grows faster than I can keep up. They multiply exponentially, I’m certain, because it takes no time at all to have over 1000 unread posts staring at me.
I don’t have time to read all those posts or even scan all the titles for interesting words that jump at me. I start to panic. I am such a slacker! How did I let this happen? What do I do now??
So, I do the unthinkable. The unspeakable.
Yep. I clicked it.
And tonight I sleep in peace!!! Ahhh….
I’m linking up to Works For Me Wednesday at We Are THAT Family.

I’m fond of that button, as well.
I never thought to do this before. It is great to have the idea and “permission” to mark all those unread posts as read.
i know. it’s painful to click but sometimes it MUST. BE. Done. i have found that subscribing via email works better for me than trying to keep up w the feed.

Love it! I use that button too and don’t even feel guilty anymore!
I’m guilty of this too, but thanks for making me feel like I’m not the only naughty one! LOL
I just couldn’t get over the overload in Google and went back to my live bookmarks in Firefox. With the new year ans some convictions about online time, I also cut my list (gasp) to about 20 blogs. I felt so bad purging, but I had to get honest with myself and my capabilities. Blessings to you all who can keep up with several blogs and not let it get you down.
It’s good to know I’m not alone.
Not sure if you do this already, but I have my feeds divided into folders so if I’m too tired to read my geeky (often very long posts on web design and coding techniques) feeds, I just skip that folder and move on to lighter reading.
It’s also nicer to read posts by topic than have all the posts jumbled up in the reader randomly.

I still can’t bring myself to do this with my whole reader, but have started to categorise my feeds so that my must-reads are separate from my interesting when I have the time reads (where I’m sometimes willing to hit that button!).
