No Place Like St. Jude

Today, my husband and I will take our third tour of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Before our first tour last year, I was apprehensive and nervous. I did not think my heart could take it. In my mind, I had pictures of a sterile, stark hospital full of sick children. I thought of hushed tones and solemn faces. I thought of my own healthy children and would almost cry. Then, we got to St. Jude…

There is truly no place like St. Jude.

Instead of a sterile, stark hospital, we found a bright, vibrant place that was not like any hospital I’d ever seen. There were murals on the walls, bright colors everywhere, comfy kid-size chairs, video games at every turn. It looked like it was designed by kids!

Instead of hushed tones and solemn faces, we saw laughing, smiling children – children that looked and acted just like yours and mine. Except that some didn’t have hair and some were missing a body part where the cancer had invaded. Looking at their faces, you would have never known it. We saw the faces of grateful parents that would have had no hope for their children outside of St. Jude.

On our past tours of St. Jude, we visited the research center where researchers from all over the world work to treat and cure childhood cancers. We looked at the cancer survival rates that have skyrocketed since St. Jude started in 1962.

St. Jude is truly a place of hope.

We are excited about the opportunity to tour the hospital again. We see and learn new things every time. I can’t wait to share more of our trip with you and share more of what St. Jude is doing to save the lives of children.

Give to St. Jude
