Lately, my son’s favorite meal is sloppy joe sandwiches. He is kind of a picky eater, so I’ve been trying to have them every week or so for the past month. They are fast, easy and cheap. Add some fresh veggies or green beans and you have a meal!
This past week, I realized that we didn’t have any hamburger buns for the sloppy joes…after I started cooking. I am not a fan of sloppy joes on bread, so I rummaged through my bread drawer hoping to find some hidden hamburger buns. I didn’t find them, but I did find hotdog buns.
I knew I could make these work, but I wanted to be a little more creative with dinner. I wanted to make it seem like I had planned to use the hotdog buns all along. So, I cut them up.
Now, they are the perfect size for…….
sloppy joe sliders!!! Those little sandwiches were a big hit!
Got any other easy ways to make an ordinary meal a little special?

You have a bread drawer? I would like to see that! Great idea for a dinner by the way – I need to put this into rotation on busy nights.
My grandma always kept her bread in a drawer. It just stuck with me! It’s a great place for bread, buns, bagels, english muffins…
Funny, it must have been a generational thing because my grandma always had a bread drawer as well. She also had one for chips and cookies. For some reason those did not go in the pantry.
Love the creativity to make sliders. I’ll have to remember that because my boys LOVE sloppy joes too.
What a wonderful idea! I never thought to cut up hotdog buns! Brilliant!
Great solution for a busy school/work night!

Thanks so much for linking up on my mommy solution party!
Cute!
My son would love these. He’s not ready for a ‘big’ sandwich yet, but the smaller size would make him feel like he was a big boy! Thanks for sharing.
