Schedule Rest Before You Are Forced To

Angel Sleeps

When I woke up yesterday, my throat was scratchy and dry. By bedtime, I had no voice and it hurt like crazy to swallow. This morning’s strep test came back negative, but the doc told me that I likely had a nasty virus that was going around and to plan on taking it easy for a couple days. Really. Not on Wednesday! This is the day that I leave the house at 8 am and don’t get home until 8:45 pm, except for a couple quick stops at home for books, lab supplies and skating and hockey gear.

Today is not the day for this.

Then, I looked back at the past couple weeks. I have been running on fumes. A packed schedule and some unexpected events have left me exhausted. No wonder I got sick!

Maybe, today needs to be the day for this.

I have spent most of the day on the couch or in bed. My daughter has taken good care of me and even did her homeschool work! My husband is taking the kids to ice skating, hockey, play practice and church tonight. (Why does everything have to be on the same day??)

I am resting.

Don’t we all need days of rest?

Why don’t we take them before we are forced to? My friend Stef at Educating Layton told me last week that she now builds rest time into her schedule. I thought that was a great idea, but didn’t do it. I will now.

So, as I get back to my quiet and rest, I encourage you to look at your schedule and build in times of rest. They are much more enjoyable without the body aches and with the ability to swallow.

I hear you. I woke up feeling the same way 2 days ago and finally I took a nap yesterday. Remembering that if I don’t take care of myself now I’ll really be feeling bad in a day or two… and guess what?? no one noticed. Clients were happy- work got done and I got to rest! amazing!
