When Blogging Makes You Busy

April 1, 2012 by

When I started Overcoming Busy, I did it just to gather some resources and thoughts about keeping the busyness out of our lives for a few friends and myself. I never really thought people I didn’t know would read it. Then, one day, I had a comment from someone I didn’t even know. Then, another and another. Before I knew it, I was a blogger.

Three years, two blog designs, a blogging conference, a new blog, two twitter accounts and a couple facebook pages later, here I am. I’m still trying to overcome busy….and failing. My kids are older and into more things. (We are living at the ice rink – 4 or 5 days a week.) I am homeschooling. I launched a new homeschool science blog. My husband and I are branching out into new areas of service. All this and I am still trying to blog about ways to overcome busy most days of the week.

This crazy schedule is leaving my family and I in a time crunch and busy. I have been looking for things to cut out of the schedule. I am looking for those things that are making us busy. Our lives are full of good things, but I need more room for the best.

One area that takes more time than I want to admit is blogging. I find myself squeezing time into come up with blog posts just for the sake of posting something. That pressure and time constraint hurts the quality of the posts. And, frankly, a lot of that time could be spent on something more important. So, I am cutting back. I’m not shutting down Overcoming Busy. I love it too much. I enjoy it – when it is not making me busy. For the most part, I am just cutting back on posting. I will post once or twice a week and I’ll use facebook and twitter to share great posts from other bloggers that will help you overcome busy. This will allow me to spend more time on what is really important and increase the quality of my posts. I don’t want to make you busy by serving you junk and wasting your precious time.

Still with me?? I just wanted to let you know what was on my heart. Thanks for joining me on this journey to overcome busy. I look forward to this next phase of the adventure!

I have to admit, I really heart this post. Thank you for you open and honest peek into what is going on in your life. It is refreshing to remember we can’t do it all…and all those power bloggers, they are also trying to ‘overcome busy’ just like those of us who aren’t bloggers!

I sometimes have to take a step back and see what is the time or energy suck in my life. It’s tough when you realize something you used to love has now become a chore. It’s difficult to let those things take a backseat to what needs our time and energy now.

Thank you for telling us that you go through that too. :)

    • Thanks for understanding, Angie! We really can’t do it all – nor do I want to!

“I sometimes have to take a step back and see what is the time or energy suck in my life. ” – love that! That is essential to overcoming busy. Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you for this, Marci!

I think that a couple years ago I took the, “Blogging w/o Obligation” stance. lol

Honestly, my personal blog is starting to grow weeds as I’m in hot pursuit of meeting other deadlines.

Thankfully a couple of those have been scaled back so that I too can have breathing room and more time for creativity in my home.

  3. Good for you! I understand the pull to blog daily and ‘keep up with the pro-bloggers’ but girl, it sure is nice not to be tied to the computer!
